Document Conventions

In this document you will be asked to run commands either as an ordinary user or as the UNIX superuser (root). Commands that are preceded by a $ are meant to be run as an ordinary user, and those preceded by a # are meant to be run as the superuser.

For example:

You should replace words that are enclosed in angle brackets (< and >) with those of your choice. Drop the angle brackets, of course.

Options enclosed in square brackets ([ and ]) are not required and can be safely omitted if they do not apply in your particular situation.
